20,000 deaths each year due to other hospital errors

80,000 deaths each year due to nosocomial infections in hospitals

106,000 deaths each year due to adverse effects to properly prescribed medications

Some of the most common medical errors, or medical malpractice, involve: failure to correctly diagnose; failure to diagnose at all; failure to properly treat, or not treating at all; failure to order tests; failure to properly evaluate test results; failure to monitor the patient; failing to prescribe the right drugs; failing to prescribe medication in the proper dosage; and surgery errors, such as operating on the wrong body part or leaving surgical sponges, etc., within the body.
